Synopsis
A school manga depicting the laugh-filled student life of Umeko, a student who moved to Tokyo with her grandparents due to her parents moving to Hokkaido, and Matsuko and Takeko, who became friends with Umeko at the girls' school they transferred to.
Background
The first book was published in two volumes by a sister company between 1949 and 1951. Significant additions and revisions were made when it was published as a book, and the illustrations are very different from the pre-war and post-war editions. The sister company was temporarily out of print, but was republished in 1983. However, when it was republished, some parts had been redrawn due to the loss of the original manuscript, and the cover design was different. After its sister company ceased operations in 1993, it was included in the thirty-first volume of Machiko Hasegawa's Complete Works, published by the Asahi Shimbun, as a combined volume with Shin Yagikita Dochuuki. In 2001, it was published as a paperback manga as the final volume of the Asahi Bunko serialization project "Hasegawa Machiko Masterpiece Manga Collection" published by the same company. The cover art for both the complete collection and the paperback is the same as the second volume of its sister company reprint.
