A dazzlingly handsome, well-mannered and popular young nobleman. Being the Emperor's son with a low-ranked concubine, Prince Genji can never inherit the throne. However, his father is dearly fond of him, and he enjoys a high status at court.
Ever since he was a child, Genji has been in love with his father's young consort, Princess Fujitsubo, a woman he could never have. Over the years he has turned his amorous attentions to many other women, and has become a notorious playboy, despite having an arranged marriage with the Lady Aoi.
