Kōzō Shioya, the Voice of Majin Buu, Passes Away

According to a statement released today by talent agency Aoni Production, voice actor "Kōzō Shioya" passed away on January"1" 20 due to a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 71. His immediate family held a private funeral in his honor.

The late voice actor Kōzō Shioya was renowned for a wide range of memorable roles, most notably as the voice of Majin Buu  in the Dragon Ball series.

Kōzō Shioya’s Career

Born in Kagoshima Prefecture on August 18, 1955, Shioya was the elder brother of fellow voice actor Yoku Shioya. Over the years, he brought to life many other characters, including:

  • Motokichi Kinuta — of World Trigger
  • Temruogtaf — Ragna Crimson
  • Hammond Pleide — of łTensei Kizoku, Kantei Skill de Nariagaru

Shioya also left his mark on numerous notable anime projects. He voiced Totapo in the special Dragon Ball Z: Bardock – The Father of Goku (1990) and played Abura Sumashi in GeGeGe no Kitarō: Jigoku Hen (1988). Later, he portrayed Konaki Jijii in the 1996 GeGeGe no Kitarō series and several of its films.

His contributions extended into later years as well, including voicing Dr. Sewashi in Mazinger Z: Infinity (2017) and Genzo in the One Piece series, cementing his legacy as one of Japan’s pillars of voice acting.
